Big Miracle

Directed by

Point Barrow, Alaska, 1988. A TV reporter in the midst of a career crisis incidentally discovers that three gray whales have become trapped under an ice sheet during their migration. They fight to survive by breathing through a small hole in the ice. The dramatic event attracts national TV news crews plus a sundry host of politicians and businessmen who have suddenly embraced the cause for animal protection. But it will be a Greenpeace volunteer, and the reporter’s ex-fiancée, who ultimately saves the whales’ lives and fends off the invasion by the media and the authorities. Based on a true story, with Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski.
