Paradise Later
Directed by
Indonesia, present day. A boat slowly plows through a vast river surrounded by nature. From the images, punctuated by rapid fades to black, the signs and traces of man gradually emerge: plastic wrappers deposited on the banks, rags hanging from trees, and in the distance the buildings of a large city. And while a voiceover recites passages from Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, we enter a landscape literally overrun by waste and garbage, but where fishermen have not given up hope of catching some prey with their nets, children play in the water, and goats wander in search of food. Premiered at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival.
