The Ghosts in Our Machine

Directed by

Beyond domestic animals and the few specimens we encounter in our everyday city life, our experience with animals is primarily based on food, the clothes we wear, the entertainment industry, or the many products tested on them and used daily. We no longer have any empathetic connection with the natural world that humans have long lost or forgotten. This is not the case for Jo-Anne McArthur, a photographer who traveled from Canada to Europe, via the United States, for a year with the aim of telling and documenting the stories of the many animals exploited and used purely for industrial purposes.
