biography

He was a zoologist and naturalist; he was the director of the Frankfurt Zoo and author of Grzimek’s Animal Life Encyclopedia. He was director of the newly established Serengeti Park during the 1950s. His book Serengeti Shall not Die was made into a documentary film of the same name and won an Oscar award in 1959, calling the world’s attention to the conservation of African wildlife.
