She is a director, screenplay writer, producer; she graduated from the UCLA Film School. She worked on various TV series and debuted with the feature Damn Whitey (1997), followed by Love & Basketball (2000) produced by Spike Lee. Beyond the Lights (2014) was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song.
