He attended Damascus University before moving to Czechoslovakia, where he studied film and directing. He then made numerous short films and documentaries such as My God, Where God Sleeps, Triumph of Iron, David der Tolhilda, Mein Kerker, mein Haus and Unser Garten Eden.
