Ha frequentato l'Università di Damasco, prima di trasferirsi in Cecoslovacchia, dove ha studiato cinema e regia. Ha quindi realizzato numerosi cortometraggi e documentari come My God, Where God Sleeps, Triumph of Iron, David der Tolhilda, Mein Kerker, mein Haus e Unser Garten Eden.
