biography
In 1978, he started working at the Leningrad Documentary Studios as an assistant director and editor before graduating from the Higher Directing and Screenwriting Courses in Moscow. He won international critical attention with Belovy (1994) and Tishe! (Hush!, 2003). Over time, he developed a peculiar gaze on contemporaneity and the man-nature relationship, which resulted in what can be considered a trilogy: ¡Vivan las antipodas! (2011), Aquarela (2018) and Gunda, all of which were presented and won several awards at major international festivals.
