For centuries, the bluefin tuna has provided an economic basis for many Mediterranean countries, supported by the traditional technique of tunny-fishing nets. With the sharp decline in the bluefin populations has come the urgent need for new fishing regulations; however, the proposed policies fall short of protecting the marine environment.
