Hofsos is a small village in northern Iceland whose inhabitants have always been accustomed to experiencing a very long winter night that lasts for several weeks, making it difficult to distinguish day from night, and daily life is perpetually defined by the artificial light of lamps and streetlights. Then, suddenly, the sun finally rises, naturally illuminating the entire landscape, before disappearing again, and all too soon, over the horizon, leaving darkness in its wake.
