The Stone River

Directed by

An elderly sculptor wanders through Hope Cemetery, examining the graves of stoneworkers who arrived in Barre, Vermont, over a century ago. It was here, in the late 19th century, that the world's largest gray granite quarries opened, drawing together, with the illusion of good pay and the hope of a new life, many Carrara natives, renowned for their skill and unique mastery of this stone's working techniques. This immigrant community would wage fierce labor battles to defend their rights, before encountering silicosis, a disease that would put an end to a true epic story, still little known today.
