Il signor Rotpeter

Directed by

This is the director’s first portrait of an imaginary character, inspired by Kafka’s short story A Report to an Academy, in which Mr. Red Peter, an ape turned human, explains the process of his metamorphosis. Though a lengthy interview with this unusual character masterfully interpreted by Marina Confalone, the story unfolds, interweaving pieces from the university lecture, the sham of his past and present set in contemporary Naples. Mr. Red Peter offers a reflection on our current times and his desperate search for a way out guided by the beacons of liberty, survival, and humanity. As he becomes more and more real, spectators begin to feel he is holding a mirror up to them.

Endangered by human actions, the diversity of species is crucial to the harmony of the interconnected ecosystems we inhabit: the implications of its loss and why this issue affects more than just those that go extinct.
