L’Étincelle

Directed by

Located about 30 km from Nantes, the zone to defend (ZAD) of Notre-Dame-des-Landes is one of the few occupied areas in Europe. In a forested area of nearly 2000 hectares, many diverse people live a particular lifestyle. They question modern society’s rules on housing, economy, decision making, and hierarchy. The ZAD residents explore the possibilities of an alternative model. The documentary follows the events of the community, a reference for contemporary protest movements around the world, during 2019 when the Macron administration was forced to table the plan for building an airport in the area and sent in 2500 troops to evacuate it.
