Staub

Directed by

Dust collects everywhere. No matter how hard we try to get rid of it, it is soon back' - the ultimate Sisyphean task. Dust settles in carpets and attics, circulates in laboratories and sticks to artworks. Belched out by industry's smokestacks, it rides on raindrops, causing all sorts of catastrophes. But it is also the stuff the universe is made of. Leading us down dust's trail are botanists, scientists, meteorologists, artists, and determined dustbusters. Staub is a project on perception as contended between philosophy and anthropology.

Director's Notes

«A speck of dust is just about perceptible to the naked eye. Wherever we go, it has already beaten us; wherever we turn, it follows us. [...] It keeps housewives busy, as well as scientists, inventors, artists, and entire industrial branches. It takes ownership of our possessions, it penetrates laboratories, it creates planets and galaxies. We're surrounded by it, it gets inside us, we shed it. [...] It nestles right into the despair of its own existence».
