Ha studiato Scienze politiche internazionali alla Georgetown University. Successivamente, dopo aver lavorato per la TimeWarner, ha fondato nel 2005 una propria società di produzione indipendente, la Tangier Pictures. War Child rappresenta il suo esordio alla regia.
