È stato disegnatore, illustratore, regista, animatore e sceneggiatore. Nel 1967 firma a Montreal l'imponente murale, in vetro policromo, dal titolo L'histoire de la musique à Montréal. Si dedica al cinema d’animazione realizzando Abracadabra (1970), Illusion (1975), Tout rien (1980), Crac (1981), con cui ottiene il suo primo Oscar, L'uomo che piantava gli alberi (1987) e Le Fleuve aux grande eaux (1993).
